Trail Work

We work with our local land managers to maintain "sustainable" trails. "Sustainable" trails are trails that last a long time and require minimal maintenance. This helps reduce trail damage, protects the environment, and enhances visitor enjoyment.

With everyone's help, we have logged many hours of trail maintenance.

  • 2004:   43.5 (December only)
  • 2005:  590.0
  • 2006:  541.0
  • Total:  1174.5

"Illegal" Trail Maintenance

  • Poorly done and unapproved trail maintenance has been done, making SORBA-Huntsville look BAD.
  • SORBA-Huntsville is the only trail maintenance group active on the mountain.
  • We are now associated with all trail maintenance done in park for good, or BAD
  • All projects are to go through the trails coordinator, so we are on the up and up with the park, or other agency

Schedule:

  • We normally meet the first Saturday of every month, unless it is a holiday weekend. In that case, we meet the next weekend.
  • Please take a look at our calendar for work dates and locations.
  • We work for about four hours. Sometimes lunch follows, and occasionally even door prices!
  • Sometimes the trail day is continued into Sunday for those who can't make Saturdays.
  • If you have a specific project you want to work on, please contact the Trails Coordinator

Locations:

  • Currently we focus most of our efforts at Monte Sano State Park.
